Pool renovation without demolition
A new, watertight stainless steel pool built inside the existing shell. Less breaking out, a shorter closure, and a pool that meets current standards.
When the concrete pool reaches its limits
Many public pools in the Netherlands and Belgium were built in the 1970s and 1980s. After decades of use the same issues appear: leaking basins, deteriorating tiles and joints, gutters that no longer meet current requirements, and maintenance that returns every few years.
Full reconstruction means demolition, a long closure and a large budget. For most owners and operators the question is whether there is a responsible alternative. In many cases there is.
How pool renovation with RenovAction works
RenovAction is Myrtha’s renovation technology. It places a new stainless steel pool structure within the existing concrete shell. The original shell stays in place and acts as the base.
Stainless steel rails
Rails are fixed along the existing walls and aligned precisely. Where the original pool dimensions must be kept, for example for competition lengths, the rails can be recessed into the wall.
Spacers
High-density spacers between the old wall and the new panels absorb irregularities in the concrete, so the new structure stands straight and stable.
PVC-laminated panels
The new walls consist of stainless steel panels with a hard PVC layer laminated in the factory. They are bolted to the rails. No structural welding is done on site.
Continuous waterproofing
The floor is lined with a reinforced PVC membrane. Panel joints and wall-to-floor connections are hot-welded, creating one continuous watertight layer from wall to floor.
New overflow gutter
The stainless steel gutter can be placed in the existing channel or along the new perimeter, depending on the overflow system required.
What it means for owners and operators
- Limited demolition. The existing shell is kept; work is focused on the pool itself.
- Shorter closure. Prefabricated components and a bolted assembly allow a shorter installation period than full reconstruction.
- Room to redesign. Within the existing structure, depths, pool edges and activity zones can be reconsidered, for example adding a shallow zone or a movable bulkhead.
- Compliance with current standards. Renovation is an opportunity to bring gutters, circulation and competition dimensions up to date.
- Partial renovation is possible. Sometimes only the perimeter or the gutter needs renewing. We assess what is necessary, not what is possible.

Design & Build: one party from survey to handover
A renovation starts with an honest assessment of the existing pool. From there, EWAC Pools takes responsibility for the whole process.
- We design. We survey the existing shell and translate your requirements and the options of Myrtha technology into one plan, together with you, your architect or adviser, and Myrtha’s engineering team.
- We build. Our team installs the rails, panels, membrane and gutter on site and finishes the pool through to handover.
- We guide. One point of contact who manages the planning and the site, with short lines of communication and a Dutch-speaking team in the BeNeLux. After handover we remain responsible for after-sales, service and maintenance.
EWAC Pools is the authorised Myrtha dealer for the BeNeLux and brings more than 30 years of experience in stainless steel construction and water engineering. Myrtha supplies the product engineering and manufactures the components.
Considering a renovation?
Send us the basic details of your pool: dimensions, year of construction and the main issues. We will give you a realistic view of the options, including when renovation is not the right choice.
