Marcinelle Leisure Centre: four pools renovated after three years of closure

The leisure centre in Marcinelle, near Charleroi, first opened in 1976. By the early 2010s the facility was outdated and had been closed for almost three years. In 2015 it reopened after all of its pools were renovated with Myrtha’s RenovAction technology.

Four pools, one approach

The renovation covered four pools: a 50-metre swimming pool, a free-form leisure pool, a diving pool and a new landing pool for the water slide. All four were renovated within their existing structures, without full demolition.

A design with local identity

The pools combine white wall panels with a floor membrane in a chessboard pattern of white and dark grey squares, the colours associated with the Charleroi area. The renovation paid attention to function as well as appearance.
